About JOCV

先日は地響きがなるほどの大きな雷が落ちたここヨハネスブルグです。
This is Johannesburg which was very big thunder with thud.

あまりの大きな音にかなりびっくりしました。きっと近くに落ちたのでは。。
I was really surprised for the sound.
前々回お伝えし損なった青年海外協力隊について書こうと思います。
At this time, I will write about Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers.

そもそも訪問のきっかけは、治安の面から制限された自分の行動範囲を
The reason why I tried to visit them was that I want to extend my activities.

どうやって広げようかと考えたところからです。

そこで、地元密着といえばJICAさんだろうと思い立ちJICAさんの事務所を訪問させて頂き、
And I thought that Japan International Cooperaton Agency must be good at dealing with 

今回の自分のプログラムの趣旨を説明し青年海外協力隊員さんをご紹介いただきました。
things connected with local culture, I explained the purpose of my program to them.
And they introduced me JOCV operated by JICA.

ちょうどヨハネスブルグからほど近いところにあるサカタのタネさんの工場兼事務所での研修が終わるとのことで、
The guys who joined JOCV now end their own workshop at Sakatanotane which is japanese seed company near Johannesburg.

そこから一緒に車で５～６時間ほどのリンポポ州Ribngwani村に行ってまいりました。
We went to Ribngwani which is his activity area and it took 6 hours from Johannesburg.

お二人いて、お一人は道中のモディモッレという地方の中堅都市まででした。
The activity area of one of them was Modimole which is small city on the way of the villedge.

おふたりともとても若くて２５歳前後くらいでしたが、考えや自分の人生設計について
They are around 25 years old, however, they thought their opinions and their life plans 

非常に深く考えられておりとても頭が下がる思いでした。
very deeply, so I have to think about it as well.

自分から説明するのも何ですが、青年海外協力隊員について簡単に説明させて頂きます。
Let me explain their activities of JOCV.

主に途上国にボランティアとして、２年間派遣され内容は様々のようですが大雑把にいえば
Their activities are various thing for 2 years as a volunteer in the developing countries,

その派遣先の地域の発展を下支えするという内容です。
the content is trying to solve the fundamental problem in their area.

ボランティアの滞在費や活動費は一定程度支給されるようですが、大変少ないようです。
They can get the money for their accommodations amd activities, but it's quite a few.

また帰国してからの仕事はJICAも斡旋はしてくれはするそうですが基本は自分で見つけなければならないそうです。
After going back to Japan, They have to find their next job themselves.

そして活動内容について事前に十分に下準備がされていないこと・完全に０からの出発になる事が多いようで、
Their activities are not enough preparing and they have to start totally from nothing.

自分のやりたい事・想いと現地人の考えとのギャップや
They said there are many gap between them and the local people,

何から何まで自分で考え設定・実行していかなければならない
they have to think themselves all of them such as their own purpose and goal.

とのことでとても大変そうですが自分の糧になることと思います。
I think theirs is really severe but it must be their bread of life.

一方で、これまでJOCVの活動として輝かしい成果がないのでは？税金で運営しているため
On the other hands, their activities were held by Japanese tax and there are no brilliant 

税金の無駄遣いではとの批判もあるそうです。
result , so some people say that it is meaningless.

今回訪問させて頂いたTさんの活動内容ですが、田舎にある農協のようなところで働き、
The activity of the guy that I visit is working in the farmer's market,

どのような農業を営めばもっとお金を稼ぐことが出来るか、その提言および指導といった内容だそうです。
he suppose to teach and make an advice for making much money with agriculture.

もともど農学部兼経済学部出身かつアフリカにも詳しいということで来られたそうですが、
He was graduated from agricultural and economic department in his university,

今更日本人が来た所でなんなん？といった感じですぐに彼らの考え方が変わるはずもなく、
however, local people think why are japanese coming? and it's quite difficult to change their mind.

なかなか自分の思った通りに現地人が動いてくれない等もどかしい日々を送っているそうです。
They can't listen to his opinion, so he said he is very struggling now.

また農業繋がりで上記サカタのタネさんの研修に来られていたそうです。
They went to Sakataseed company's workshop to learn about the seed.

民間企業であるサカタのタネと中小企業向け金融機関をJICAが仲介となり取り持つことで、
JICA mediate between Sakataseed and financial agency for SMMEs,

地方への種子の販売を行う予定だそうで三者ともに利益のある事業になりそうな話でした。
they are trying to sell seeds, which will make profit for them.

JICAとしても政府だけでやれることは限られているので
JICA think that there are limitation to do by only them,

専門的な技術を持つもっと民間企業と連携していきたいという思いがあるそうで、
try to cooperate with Japanese companies with specialist.

だから自分の今回の依頼も快く引き受けて下さったんだと妙に納得しました。
That's why they can received my proposal to visit to JOCV.

泊まらせて頂いたお家です

本当は街中の様子、村の中の畑や学校や色んな所を紹介頂いて、写真を撮るつもりでしたが、
I wanted to take a photo of the village, farm area and school and so on..

この日は本当に気分が悪く、こういった日に限って南アに来て初の発熱をしてしまいました。

At that time, I really feel very bad, I have gotten first fever since I came here.

そして到着してすぐに横になって解熱剤をもらい、翌朝起きてすぐヨハネスに５時間かけて戻ってまいりました（汗）

I lay down soon after arriving, received medicine, went back to Johannesburg next early morning. 

マラリアの恐れもあったのですぐに病院に行きましたがマラリアではなく一安心。

I was afraid to get malaria, so went to hospital. but it was not..

ただし、CRPという炎症を示す値が異常に高かったようで医師も首をかしげていましたが、

I and a doctor don't know why, but the value of CRP was a little high.

そのまま帰され一週間ほど尾を引きましたが、今はすっかり回復しました。

Now, I recover from the fever.

というわけで、話は道中の車の中で十分聞けましたが村の様子・活動している様子など

I could get many interesting information from then on the way to the village,

まだまだ見れなかった部分が多くあるのでもう一度訪ねに行こうと思っています。
however, I want to go there again to look around his activity area.
