Student Strike

These days, The biggest news here is about "Student Strike".
最近の一番のトップニュースは学生によるストライキです。

The fee for the university is almost same as it in japan, and the university tried to increase their fee next year (10%UP !)
実は南アの大学の学費は日本の国立大学とほぼおなじ金額なんですが、
大学が来年から学費を10％もあげると発表したことのようです。

Even now, there are a lot of students who are struggling for making the money because many people are under the poverty especially for black people in this country.
既に今でもこの国の特に黒人の人達は貧困で苦しんでいるので、
学費に苦しんでいる学生も沢山いるんです。
おそらく日本の貧乏学生と言われている人たちの比ではないと思います。

The economics of these two countries are so different that they can't get as much as salary in SA and it's difficult to find jobs for even the person who is graduated the university.
これら2つの国の経済は全く違う（なんせ南アはまだ発展途上ですから。）日本と同じ給料をもらえないし、その前に大学を卒業した人でさえ職につくのは非常に難しいんです。

Theregore, it is quite difficult to collect the money in SA as much as in Japan.
なので、日本と同じ学費を集めるのはこの国の人達にとってとっても難しいんです。
（一部のすんごいお金持ちは除きますが）

The strike started around two weeks ago from wits university which is one of the best university in SA.
ストライキはWit大学という南アの中の一、二を争う優秀大学から2週間前に始まり、

This protest action spread to almost all university in SA.
南ア全土に広がっていきました。

On last Friday, the action was held in front of the union building in Pretoria, the capital of this country.

そして先週の金曜日首都のプレトリアの大統領府の前でストライキが開かれ、

And it becomes action with a little violence.

さらに若干暴力っぽい様相も呈してきていました。

Finally, Jacob Zuma who is president of SA had the speech for it and he force the university remain their fees.

結局ズマ大統領がスピーチを行い、大学側に学費を据え置くように発表したんです。

The requirement from the student was almost totally accepted, however, they were still angry because the president did't appear in front of them..

要求はほぼ主張通り認められたわけですが、学生側は大統領が直接皆の前に出てきて話を

しないと主張して依然ストライキっぽい行動も若干続けていたようです。

I appreciated the opinion was accepted and the fees did not increase. But something's bugging me.

彼らの主張が受け入れられて学費が上がらなかったことは喜ばしいんですが、なんだかなぁというもやもやした感じが残りました。

I think the university could do decide not to increase the fee before the action or set discussion with students because they can do it after the president told to do so.

私が思うに、大統領が据え置くようにって言う前に大学は据え置くように決めれたんじゃないかなと思うし、ストライキが起こる前に学生との話し合いを設ける等の何らかの措置が出来たのではと思うわけです。

In this country, the unions such as student union and labor unions are very strong and have big influence to the country.

この国はこういう学生組合や労働組合のような組合組織は非常に強くって、社会に大きな影響を及ぼしています。（アパルトヘイト撤廃も労組から始まった取り組みでしたし。）

It is good thing to speak out their opinion, but I think they and their enemies such as univ. and governments are not good at setting argument or arrangement to avoid the protest action which is big impact and sometimes some people are injured and died.

別に主張そのものはいいことだと思うのですが、組合やその敵対組織は話し合いの設定だったりそれに対する何らかの措置を設定するのがとても下手なのではと思います。

ストライキは時に怪我人や死人だって過去アパルトヘイトが終わってから何人も出ているのに。

But this is South Africa I think.

でも、これが南アフリカなんでしょうね。

About Pretoria

These days, It is very cold in the morning and evening Johannesburg.

最近また寒きなってきたヨハネスブルグですがいかがお過ごしですか？

At this time, I introduce a little pretoria which is the capital of Republic of South Africa.

今回は、南アフリカの首都であるプレトリアを紹介しようと思います。

Now, it is best season to see jacaranda which is very popular and famous flower to let us know the spring is coming. 

今、プレトリアはジャカランダという春の訪れを告げる花が街中どこかしこで満開中です。

A color of the flower is purple and their blossom is lasting for a few week.

                 There are so many places like this photo in Pretoria, it is really nice.

いわゆる日本でいる桜のようなもののようです。

ただ、２～３週間咲き続けるので非常に長く楽しめます。

I was invited a lunch party held by Japanese ambassador as a member of organizing the Japanese spring festival two weeks ago.

This is the photo in his house in Pretoria.The view is really nice.

今日は、先日行われた日本人会春祭りの実行委員のねぎらい会ということで、

南アフリカの日本大使様にご招待頂き大使公邸でのランチパーティーに参加してきました。

プレトリアが一望できる非常に眺めの良い一角です。

They served Sashimi for us,

中々食べられない刺し身だったり、

and chirashi-sushi also.

ちらし寿司も！どれもとっても美味しかったです。

It was so nice that we went like a wedding party.

どこかの結婚式のような場所でした。欲を言えばここでもう２～３時間くつろぎたかったですね。

And Last Friday, I went to the stadium in Pretoria with my company's co-workers to watch the rugby game.

話は変わりますが、こないだの金曜日に会社の方に誘われてラグビーの試合に連れて行って頂きました。

This is the stadium next to the Pretoria University.

ここがスタジアムですがプレトリア大学の隣です。

Before I came to SA, I watched the movie Invictus that I mentioned before.

I thought whites and blacks will watch the game together.

But, the audience were almost whites as you can see the photo.

南アに来る前に見た「インビクタス」という映画では、最後白人と黒人が肩を抱き合ってラグビーの試合を見るというシーンがありましたが、現実はまだまだそうもいかないようですね。

We were invited by Japanese company.

I thought it will be usual seats,

but it was box seats which have bar counter and some snacks.

And the seats were really close to the field!

我々は、別の日経企業様からお招き頂き伺ったのですが、普通のただの席かと思いきや、

こんな立派なボックス席でした。バーカウンターはあるし、軽食も用意されていました。

（大変恐縮でした。。）

しかも席がフィールドに近いのなんの！

This is the view from the seats. The game was semi-final of the leagues and close game.

So many people including me were very excited.

Unfortunately, the team from Pretoria lost the game.

Many company showed the board with their names to appeal as you can see above.

The rugby is so popular that it is good way to appeal.

この試合は、リーグ戦のセミファイナルということ接戦のゲームということもあり、

自分も含め観客の皆さんはとても興奮していました。

残念ながら、プレトリアのホームチームは負けてしまいました。。

多くの会社がスタジアムに出資して看板を出していましたが、

白人に対しての非常に効果的な宣伝方法だなと感じました。

I was the engineer in optical design. So I checked the camera and len unconsciously.

前がカメラの部署だったので、ついついこういうバーズカが気になります。

The game was really nice, so I could understand a little that the many people here like to watch the game.

Next time, I want to watch the games (ex: football) which is popular for blacks.

実際にこうして試合を見に来てみると、ラグビーで熱狂する人の気持が少しわかったように思います。次は個人的にチケットを買ってでも行ってみようかなと思うようになりました。

一方で、黒人の人達にとって人気のスポーツの試合もいつか必ず観に行ってみたいと思います。

And in this article, let me mention about my temporary return to Japan in this December.

Fortunately, one of my co-worker in the company which I'm working as a intern now is interested in the visit to Japan. It will cost him a little bit much money as you know, but he is really thinking to go to Japan now. I'm really welcome for his visit.

I'll go with him and show many Japanese culture including traditional and subculture one.

So, when we go to Japan, let's go to somewhere to drink with us!

最後に、１２月に一時帰国についてお知らせさせてください。

とても幸運な事に今インターンとして働かせていただいている会社の一人の黒人さんが日本に来ることにとても関心を抱いてもらっています。日本への飛行機代だけでも彼にとっては少なくないお金ですが、彼は本気で日本への訪問を考えてくれているようです。

行ってみようかなと考えてくれるだけでも嬉しいですが、本気で考えてくれているようなので、

本当に嬉しいですね。

伝統的な文化・京都はもちろん、かれは黒人の例にもれずヒップホップが好きなようなのでサブカルチャーの東京も案内したいと思っています。（自分はヒップホップなんて殆ど知りませんが。。）

というわけで、日本に行ったら飲みに行くとか是非お付き合い頂けるととっても嬉しいです！

Sandton area

日増しに暑くなってきているヨハネスブルグです。
In Johannesburg, It is becoming hot day by day.

昨日日本人会主催の年に一度の春祭りということで、実行委員として音響担当をやって来ました。
Yesterday, I joined the Japanese spring festival as a member of organizer from my company.

今年からは現地の方を多く呼び込み日本の存在感をもっとアピールしようということでしたが、
This year, we invited many local people not Japanese to appeal our presence to them,

登録来場者数は昨年比2倍と非常に盛況で皆さん楽しんでおられたようでひとまず良かったです。
the number of the registered person was twice as much as last year.

So, I hope they enjoyed so much.

前回はヨハネスブルグセントラルの写真だったので、今回はサントン地区を撮ってまいりました。
I posted the photo  of the central of Johannesburg, I'll post them of sandton.

まずは我が家ですが、右の建物です。サントン地区にはこうしたセルフケータリングのホテルのような建物が沢山建っています。ビジュアル的にもっと豪華そうな建物もたくさん建っています。
日曜日ということもあり、人は殆ど歩いていませんでした。平日も大していませんが。
The right building is my house. There are many building like this as a self catering hotel.
And some of them are looks much more expencive.
Today is sunday, so there are quite few people in the street.

これは平日に撮った写真ですが、ヨハネスブルグ恒例の朝の渋滞です。
This photo was taken on weekday, and daily heavy trafic.
ヨハネスブルグ中心行きの車線が大渋滞。そして、殆ど一人しか載っていません。
The lane for the central Johannesburg is terrible, and all of them is only one person.
アメリカみたいに多人数用のfastlane作ったらいいのにね、と勤務先の人と話していました。
I talked with my co-worker that the fast lane not for the one person like the US should be made.

家から3分くらいの道の写真です。素敵っぽい雰囲気が伝わるでしょうか。

This road is three minutes from my house. Can you feel this nice atmosphere.

ここも日曜日ということもあって殆ど人は居ませんでした。

There are quite a few people because of the sunday.

20年ほど前はここサントン地区はなにもなかったそうです。

I heard that there were nothing 20 years ago.

まだまだ街自体も建設中という感じで、

So, the city of sandton is making now.

多くの建物が工事中です。自分の家の隣も工事中なのでたくさん土埃が舞い込んできます。。

Many of buildings are under construction. By the way, the building next my house is under construction too, much dust is coming to my room.

サントン中心地にあるコンベンションセンターやホテル・ショッピングセンター等の複合施設です。

This is the buildings for convention, hotel and shopping centre.

どこかのホテルの入口のようです。高級そうな車が出入りしています。

I don't know the name of this hotel, but the car looks expensive is going in.

メインの入口らしきところを写した写真です。工事中でないところ以外は道路は綺麗に舗装され、
セントラルにある穴のようなものはありません。
This may be the main entrance of the mall named sandton city.
The road is paving quite nice except under construction, we can't see the hole that I found at the central.

ショッピングセンターの入り口はどこもゲートがあって、出るときにモールの店舗出入口に

精算機が置かれていて支払う形式です。

Every mall in this area have the gate to pick up the ticket, and we must pay for it at the machine of the entrance.

一時間だけでも７R(≒７０円）という結構高い金額設定です。

It cost us 7R only for one hour, I think it's a little expensive.

外は全く人は居ませんが中はまぁまぁの人手です。

There are quite a few as you see, but some people enjoyed their shopping inside. 

買い物客の殆どは車できて、買い物して、

車で帰るというスタイルで外から歩いてくるという人は殆どいないかと思われます。

I think most of them is coming by their own car, go shopping and going back to home,

there are really quite a few people is coming here by walking.

ここはいつも人がいるところなんですが、日曜だったので人がいませんでした。。

I thought there are many, but not because of the Sunday evening.

ちなみに夜のサントンシティ（このモールの名前）はこんな感じで大変おしゃれですよ。

The sandton city at the night looks very beautiful.

とまぁ、こんな感じなのですが前回のセントラルとは車で３０分くらいの距離にあります。

こうした地域に自分は住んでますが、セントラルが全然違う国のように感じた自分の印象を
少しは共有できましたでしょうか。
This area called sandton is around 30 minutes from the central by car.
I lived in sandton now, can you understand my feeling that the central is like a different country?

今回は写真メインにします

いよいよ夏に近づいてきました。

とはいえ、朝晩は非常に冷え込みます。

本日の最低気温５℃、最高気温３０℃！差がすごいです。

ただし高地（１７５０ｍ！）にあるため非常に乾燥しており、

さほど不快に感じないのが幸いです。

しかし、この気温差になかなかなれず最近は体調を崩し気味です。

さて、ブログを書こうと思ったら最近は写真があまりないことに気づいたので今回は写真メインにします。

前回ヨハネスブルグセントラルに行ってきたわけですが、

自分の車での運転だったのでうまく写真が取れなかったので、

日本人の方に紹介して頂いた観光バスに乗って再度リベンジしてきました！

まずはアパルトヘイトミュージアム。
heritage day ということで入場料が無料だったので、せめてもと思いマグカップを購入。
アパルトヘイトの始まりから終わりまで紹介されています。南アに来たらここは避けて通れませんね。制度上は終わって２０年も経つけど、すぐに黒人の人達の立場が改善されないのも非常に頷けます。

館内は撮影が出来ませんでしたが、これだけ撮ってきました。
どこかの会社のスローガンに似ている！

このバスに乗って観光していきます。
あまりにも派手かつ高みの見物みたいで、
決して良い気分ではありませんが仕方が
ありません。
そして白人・インド系のお客が殆どでした。。
そして、バスのイヤホンからは日本語音声の説明つきで非常に嬉しい（笑）

行ったら身ぐるみ剥がされると悪名高い駅の
近くに止まっている電車。
どれも非常に古い。
最近出来たハウトレインという電車で40分くらい着く場所でも平気で２～３時間もかかるらしい。

これはヨハネスの市庁舎。
権力を誇示するためにここまで大きくしたんだとか。
どこの国も市庁舎は立派ですね。













電車の駅のように見えますが、これはバス停。
結構見た目は先進的。
赤い線はバス専用レーンで朝夕のラッシュ時には約に立つそうです。
私はここに一度知らないで間違って入ったことがあります。。

道端で何やら売っている人たち。
こういった人たちが街中たくさんいます。
なんともこの怪しげな雰囲気伝わるでしょうか？

そしてところどころに穴があります。
そして、こういった道端に面したいわゆる普通のお店はサントンにはありません。
サントンはショッピングモールだけと言っても過言ではありません。

ちょっと危なそうな雰囲気がそこかしこに漂っています。

ここはガンジースクエアという場所です。
皆さんご存知のガンジーさんも南アフリカ出身なんですよ。
昔一等席の切符を持って南アの電車に乗ってたら人種的にお前はあっちにいけと言われて悔しい思いをしたそうです。それがきっかけとなってインドの独立運動を導いったそうですよ。

ここ、確か今は使われていない昔の銀行だった気がする。
建物は洋風でおしゃれです。

ここは古い郵便局だそうです。
非常におしゃれ。

町中にはアーケードのようなものもあります。
非常に行ってみたくありますが、
念のためパス。お分かりの通り黒人率100%。
今度インターン先の人に頼んで案内してもらおうと思います。

アフリカ一高い建物だそうで、登ってみました。
周りは高い建物は殆どありません。

ところどころにこうした
人が住んでいると思しき小屋があります。
貧富の差がすさまじいです。

これは帰りがけの道です。
これだけ見るとアメリカの西海岸みたいとは思いませんか？

上の小綺麗な道から一分後の横道にはこうしたバラックが乱立しています。
いわゆるタウンシップというもので旧黒人居住区です。旧と言いますが、未だにこうした暮らしから逃れられない人がこの国には本当に山程います。
さすがにここに踏み込むのはやばそうな気がしますが、インターン先の方でここ出身の方がいるそうなので話をしてみようと思ってます。







町中は非常に活気はありますが、黒人の方しかいないという異様な雰囲気でした。

本当違う国にでも行った感覚でした。

とUPして思いましたが、サントンの写真がありませんね。来週撮ってきます。
